UXLabs Certified Interaction Designer (UCID)

Human computer interaction is by necessity a field with interdisciplinary concerns, since its essence is interaction that includes people and machines, virtual worlds and computer networks, and a diverse array of objects and behaviors. In the midst of this interdisciplinary collision, we can see the beginnings of a new profession, which might be called "interaction design."

While drawing from many of the older disciplines, it has a distinct set of concerns and methods. It draws on elements of graphic design, information design, and concepts of human-computer interaction as a basis for designing interaction with (and habitation within) computer-based systems.

The UXLabs Certified Interaction Designer (UCID) training and certification examines concepts of design practice and related design methods for interaction designers. Interaction design requires design actions to be situated and to highly involve participation of individuals and stakeholders in the design process. This course explores the range of relevant techniques and methods for Interaction Design. In addition, the course introduces the conceptual context of reflective practice as mode of understanding and discussing the design proces.

Training Overview

The course will introduce students to the core principles, process and methodologies of Interaction Design for various platforms including but not limited to Web, Desktop, Mobile and Tablet devices. Students will review a wide range of methods focused on conceptualization, use experience and situated use. These include pattern language, prototyping, scenarios, role-playing and enactment, body/mind storming, design games, design happenings, participatory design and the use of workshops. In addition to readings, students will engage in exploratory design method projects.

Objectives

Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Explain Interaction design principles and processes
  • Implement user research with various methodologies like persona, focus groups, interviews, observation, questionairre, field studies etc
  • Understand various mental, cognitive and social interaction model
  • Identify various Interaction models like touch, tap, trackball and effectively design for them
  • Design Interactive interfaces for Websites, Web Applications, Desktop Applications
  • Design Interactive Interfaces for Mobile and Tablet devices

Approach

We follow a very interactive approach for all our trainings with examples, practical and lab based exercises. We use the following aids for training

  • Presentations
  • Audio
  • Video
  • Flash Cards

Practical, Hands-On Learning

Structured around a running set of project exercises and assignments, the course is organized to emphasize practical application of concepts. Each topic is presented and then immediately applied to a team exercise that is a real-world application carefully crafted for learning the course topics. This dynamic, interactive, hands-on approach instills in participants a broad base of how-to-do-it knowledge that can be immediately applied in their work situations. By the end of the course, each attendee has participated in all major activities for designing and evaluating a usable interface. Based on participant feedback, these assignments and exercises are one of the favorite features of this course.

Assessment:

Every week assessment in the form of quiz, discussion question, long and short answers, multiple choice questions wil be scheduled in order to test the knowledge. Throughout the training unit/mock test would be conducted which will help you clear your final exams.
