UXLabs Certified Information Architect (UCIA)
UXLabs Certified Information Architecture (UCIA) training presents a process for developing the architecture of information. As you learn the process, you work with a small group of students to develop a project. After your team defines the goals and audience for the project, you analyze the audience needs and necessary content, identify categories for grouping and presenting the information, develop appropriate navigation, and create preliminary designs for the main types of topics to be included. You involve users in the process and experience the impact of user input on your information design.
Modular writing, single-sourcing, content management, user-centered design, and usability are all important concepts in the industry today. What do these terms mean? How do they relate to information architecture? And, as a technical communicator, how do they impact you? You learn the answers to those questions while focusing on developing the information architecture for your project.
Training Overview
The course will introduce students to the core principles, process and methodologies of Information Architecture including conducting user research, content assessment and organization, documenting technical processes within systems, defining organizational structures, and developing interactive prototypes. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to design organizational systems that facilitate efficient retrieval of information.
Objectives
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify what information architecture is and how it relates to other user experience disciplines
- Learn a process for defining the information architecture of a project, and practice that process
- Define core IA theories and principles and their context of use- classification, categorization, navigation, labeling and metadata
- Define and implement core IA techniques and methodology - content analysis, ethnographic research, user research, persona, card sorting and more
- Identify various IA patterns and when to use them - structures for different types of sites
- Information Architecture ethics
- IA best practices
- Identify and provide key IA deliverables
- Work on various IA tools and templates
- Understand present Information Architecture challenges
- Understand Enterprise Information Architecture and its challenges
- Implement Enterprise Information Architecture methodologies
- Align IA with other enterprise architectures
Approach
We follow a very interactive approach for all our trainings with examples, practical and lab based exercises. We use the following aids for training
- Presentations
- Audio
- Video
- Flash Cards
Practical, Hands-On Learning
Structured around a running set of project exercises and assignments, the course is organized to emphasize practical application of concepts. Each topic is presented and then immediately applied to a team exercise that is a real-world application carefully crafted for learning the course topics. This dynamic, interactive, hands-on approach instills in participants a broad base of how-to-do-it knowledge that can be immediately applied in their work situations. By the end of the course, each attendee has participated in all major activities for designing and evaluating a usable interface. Based on participant feedback, these assignments and exercises are one of the favorite features of this course.
Assessment:
Every week assessment in the form of quiz, discussion question, long and short answers, multiple choice questions wil be scheduled in order to test the knowledge. Throughout the training unit/mock test would be conducted which will help you clear your final exams.

We provide various modes of training for the flexibility of the candidates
"As an online course it allowed me to study where and when I wanted, but it was more than just that. The support from tutors was first rate, while the course was well paced and pitched at a level which allowed me to learn quickly and in depth. More importantly since I completed the course I have been able to work for clients as well as contributing to the work of other teams in the company."
Wan Jozrin, Skali Groups, Malaysia
"I have taken many on-line courses. None have offered teleconference as part of the course. It enabled conversational interaction with other students and the instructor which enriched the learning environment. It enabled us as students to see and discuss each others work and share in the feedback interactively."
